COLLEGIUM DE DUNIS
The choir Collegium de Dunis was founded in October 1995 and has ever since been conducted by Ignace Thevelein (1953). From the beginning, it offered its public a broad range of concert programs.
The motets and several cantatas of J.S. Bach has been performed, as well as his Magnificat, Christmas Oratory and the St John’s, St Mark’s and St Matthew’s Passion. Furthermore, G.F. Haendel’s Messiah and A. Vivaldi’s Gloria are amongst the baroque masterpieces on the choir’s curriculum.
A strong reputation was also gained in the field of a capella music from the renaissance to now. The choir regularly brings concerts with sixteenth-century polyphony. The pieces are chosen for their texts, which serve as a thematic thread throughout the program.
In 2000, the choir received a golden medal at the International Festival in Prague (Peter Eben Prize). The jury especially complimented the choir on their performance of Spanish polyphony.
Several cd’s were produced. The most remarkable among them were “Laus tibi”, featuring renaissance polyphony, which was released for the tenth anniversary of the choir in 2005. In 2011 the choir released “Puer Natus”, a CD that tells the story of Christmas with music from renaissance composers who lived in Flanders, Spain, Italy…
In 2007, in 2010 and in 2015 Collegium de Dunis was finalist of the choir competition of the Province of West-Flanders.
Beside their activities in Belgium, the choir also was several times guest in France, the Netherlands and United Kingdom. The choir made concerttours in France, in Czech Republic and in Bulgaria with performances of a capella music from Flemish composers from renaissance till now.
